Damn Yankees Car Show
May 2nd 2004, North Weald Aerodrome

Almost at its rightful place.

This was to be the first public showing of the car since the official launch over the winter at the Autosport show and Xtreme Wheels show.

The car was now getting closer to its natural territory; first it was outside and looked much the better for being there and secondly North Weald has been home to drag racing events that have featured Houndog cars of the past and still, today, has various test and tune / street car Drag Races...but today was a show day.

Representing the team at the show were Nobby, Junior, Darren and your humble webmaster.

On the only dry and sunny day of the Bank Holiday weekend a steady flow of visitors and spectators made their way through the massed ranks of American cars to the end of the parking area where the race cars were based; a handful of Mustang Street/Strip cars, a Competition Altered and the NHR Camaro.

Many questions were asked from both regular Drag Racing enthusiasts and those that had just a passing interest in the sport.

Prior to being taken to the show arena, it was decided to lift the body to show off what's underneath. This bought even more people, many of which were hoping for the car to be fired up. These people included Nobby, Junior, Darren and myself.......but not this time I'm afraid. The continuing lack of some engine internals making this task a tad difficult at the moment.

As the car was towed to the show arena, the car on the move, albeit on the end of the rope, drew many more people to the centre. There the car was displayed, body up initially, while a series of interviews were undertaken. The MC obviously knew Nobby from old and just handed the mic over for Nobby to explain the building of the car and what all the bits were for the uninitiated.

At the end of the day, the team came away with their first trophy for "Best Modified Car"...the closest description the organisers could come up with....one of many trophies to come we all hope.

While we were at North Weald the first round of the British Funny Car championship took place at Avon Park  where car gremlins and weather stopped any meaningful action or results.
